Access to the Land 2000

This year marked Stauros' sixth Access to the Land bible study trip to Israel. Access to the Land is a bible study program designed especially for people with physical disabilities. Passionist father Donald Senior, president of the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and renowned scripture scholar, was once again our guide. The experience of our group was one of joy and wonder as we traversed the Holy Land from Galilee to the Dead Sea. The adventurous spirit of our group was a resounding witness to the inclusive message of Jesus in the Gospels. We have more people to thank for their support, hospitality, and prayers than this space can contain. So, rather than offend by omission, I offer a simple thank you all!

As I write this, violence and anger have again surfaced in the land where we found the people, whether Israeli or Palestinian, to be universally kind, caring, and peace loving. I'm sure I join with many others in our group in asking for your prayers for the people and leaders of the Holy Land that they might find an end to violence and a beginning to a lasting peace.

A final note, if you are a student of the scriptures and a person with a physical disability, please consider joining us on our next adventure tentatively scheduled for August 17 - 28, 2002.
