Announcement

Stauros, USA, is happy to announce the publication of Flavian Dougherty, CP, Stauros in Chicago, 1981-1989 by Rian Clancy, CP. This memoir chronicles the life of Flavian Dougherty, CP, during his years as the first Director of Stauros, USA. The book recounts Flavian's coming to Chicago in 1981 through his painful leaving nine years later. The striking pictures in this memoir speak powerfully of a man of great human personality and love. Fr. Flavian was rooted in a traditional spirituality that saw the sick, the mentally and physically disabled as part of the mystery of God, as souls chosen by God. Here in Chicago, Flavian underwent a great conversion. He steeped himself in the ways in which Jesus opened a whole new world to the visually impaired, the hearing impaired, persons with disabilities. Flavian came to see that they must be fully accepted in the world, in the Church. He attributed his conversion to those who were physically disabled. They opened for him a new world of compassion, joy and dynamic life styles. Hopefully those reading this book will find something of the joy and the sorrow of the hundreds who knew and experienced this Passionist man. Fr. Clancy presents us with a vibrant, alive, loving, charismatic man--Father Flave, the embodiment of Stauros. This book is available by writing to the Stauros office in Chicago. A free will offering to cover printing, handling and postage is suggested.
