Thursday began with the reappearance of the sun at the Passionist Spiritual Center of Riverdale, aka, the Cardinal Spellman Retreat House. Overlooking the Hudson river it provides a quiet setting for our group to get organized.
A handful of us arrived on Wednesday to begin preparations for meeting our fellow travelers at LaGuardia and JFK airports in New York. Staff members Alan Melkerson and Fr. Phil Smith, CP, were joined by first timers Katie Schroth and Larry Huiras in untangling the construction at New York's airports and wading through gameday traffic at Yankee Stadium..

Gathering over a fine meal we have all arrived.

Only a couple of minor delays kept us from sitting down to dinner together. But by the time the wonderful staff at Riverdale served the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie (yum) everyone had arrived safe and sound.
Later in the evening we met together to share a little bit about ourselves and some of the reasons that brought us to take this trip.
Early to bed for everyone ending our first day of travel before we go on to Europe and the Holy Land tomorrow.
